Shelley Clymer, Ph.D., LMFT, CST

My specialization is working with relationships and sexual concerns, treating a multitude of areas such as emotional and sexual intimacy, infidelity, communication, and conflict management. As a Certified Sex Therapist through AASECT, I work with concerns such as sexual functioning and pleasure, lifespan sexual development and illness, navigating sexual trauma effects on self and relationships, and sexual variation and diversity. Using a systemic perspective, I consider not only how one’s relationships influence their experience, but also how culture, ethnicity, race, gender, religion, sexuality, and other identities influence clients’ lives.

I also work with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of other client issues including but not limited to: life adjustments and transitions, confidence and self, grief, parenting, as well as anxiety and depression. As part of my doctoral and master’s studies, I conducted research on couple attachment, sexuality, and conflict management, as well as research on military families and an intervention for children called Filial Therapy. I presented these study findings at conferences and published the research in professional journals. I have also taught at the university level for Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana), for Augustana College (Rock Island, Illinois), and for Purdue University Calumet (Hammond, Indiana). I enjoy constantly reading and learning, being collaborative, and sharing what I learn with clients, students, supervisees, and colleagues.
